Thrifty Travel

Cheap and cheerful. I have those words etched on the inner sides of my eyelids! My dad used them to describe holidays on the Jurassic Coast or at Center Parks, holidays I admittedly loved every second of.

Ever since, however, I have wondered how I could venture further and further afield on my shoestring budget. I have learnt, through countless trips abroad, that my personal level of enjoyment is higher for trips in which I don’t break the bank. Thus, perhaps the following motto better articulates my sentiments towards thrifty travel:

“It is great wealth to a soul to live frugally with a contented mind.”

Saving money alleviates many of the stresses that can go along with travel, and I don’t know about you, but when I spend wisely my heart rate sits significantly lower. Coupled with the fact that, as a student, I simply don’t have £50 notes to throw away, my experiences have led me to accumulate a variety of tips to save myself, and now you, money.

That’s why I love being thrifty when I travel but, contrary to popular opinion, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to have great experiences. I’m not trying to diminish your experiences and, if you follow my tips right, hopefully I can enhance your travels to different places and give you a more authentic view of cultures you visit!
